US vows consequences for perpetrators of Erbil attack
Safety of US government personnel, citizens 'top priority,' says State Department
WASHINGTON
The US warned Wednesday there will be consequences for those behind a rocket attack earlier this week near Erbil International Airport in northern Iraq.
Speaking at a press conference, State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said an investigation is ongoing into the attack and the safety of US government personnel and US citizens is "top priority."
"We’re not going to preview a response, but it is fair to say that there will be consequences for any group responsible for this attack," said Price.
A civilian contractor with the US-led coalition was killed and nine others, including a US soldier, were wounded in the attack late Monday, for which an Iraqi armed group calling itself the Guardian of Blood Brigades claimed responsibility.
The Shia group is said to be part of the Hezbollah Brigades, which is backed by Iran.
