Rain-triggered landslides and floods have killed 112 people and left 68 others missing across Nepal over the past three days, local police and media reported on Sunday.

Nepal’s Home Ministry confirmed 99 deaths, 68 missing persons, and 100 injuries, according to The Kathmandu Post. The disaster has hit the Kathmandu Valley particularly hard, with 48 confirmed deaths, 15 injuries, and 21 people still missing.

Rescue operations are ongoing, and officials warn that the casualty count could rise as efforts continue.

Floods and landslides have inundated major highways, stranding thousands of passengers and disconnecting all road links to Kathmandu, the national capital. Hundreds of houses and bridges have been buried or swept away, displacing numerous families.

"It will take at least three to four days to clear the roads," police spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki said, referring to efforts to reopen the highways.

On Saturday, 14 bodies were recovered from two vehicles buried in landslides in Jyaple Khola of Dhading district, along the Tribhuvan Highway, a vital route connecting Kathmandu with the rest of the country.

Authorities have ordered a three-day school closure starting Sunday and postponed all university-level exams scheduled through Tuesday.
