Switzerland has condemned airstrikes conducted by the Myanmar military which reportedly killed at least 100 people.

"Switzerland condemns the military airstrikes on the Sagaing region of Myanmar, which resulted in the death of a large number of civilians," the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday on Twitter.

The ministry called for an "immediate" de-escalation of violence and medical treatment of injured people.

The airstrikes happened on Tuesday morning in the Kanbalu township and struck the inauguration ceremony of a People’s Administration Team office in the village of Pa Zi Gyi, according to Myanmar Now news agency.

Around 150 people were attending the ceremony, the report said.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military overthrew Aung San Suu Kyi's government on Feb. 1, 2021.
