Years before his reelection to the White House, Donald Trump promised to address the Congress wearing a taekwondo uniform, a media report claimed Thursday.

Trump made the pledge when World Taekwondo Headquarters President Lee Dong-sup met the US president-elect on Nov. 19, 2021, at his Mar-a-Lago resort in the state of Florida.

“President-elect Trump promised at the time that if he succeeded in getting reelected, he would give a speech to Congress wearing the uniform,” Lee told South Korea’s Yonhap News, which also released a picture of the two with Trump in a taekwondo suit.​​​​​​​

Trump, a Republican, beat Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race, securing a massive 295 Electoral College votes, as of now, well above the required 270.

The victory marks Trump’s return to the presidency for a second term he is scheduled to start by being inaugurated Jan. 20.

Trump is the only US president to have won a non-consecutive second term in more than 100 years. His first term ended in January 2021 when Joe Biden from the Democratic Party was sworn in as the 46th president of the US.

The president-elect gained much traction on Korean Peninsula affairs during his first term by holding three summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Trump said he would “contribute to inter-Korean peace,” according to Lee, who had presented him with a taekwondo uniform.
