Turkey’s major business association, the Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) on Monday urged all political parties to work together in the wake of the national elections.
“We wish our political parties to act according to the consensus culture of democracy and to rally around the interests of the country,” Turkey’s largest business association said in a statement.
The association said that the election campaign was significantly more tense than usual and left behind an atmosphere of conflict.
“Confidence in the economy, as well as in the country should be restored with free thought, participation, rule of law and common sense. We believe that an environment of trust will grow up, bringing with it transparency and accountability, to create a strong and effective civil society,” the statement said.
The foreign trade volume of the TUSIAD’s members amounted about 80 percent of Turkey’s total foreign trade, excluding energy imports, in 2013. About 50 percent of private sector employees are hired by TUSIAD members.
