Dutch authorities have made the decision to close the cruise ship terminal in Amsterdam, citing pollution concerns, according to a media report Friday.

The majority of the city council members voted in favor of closing and relocating the terminal, which is deemed incompatible with Amsterdam's ecological plans and commitments, according to NL Times.

The terminal suits neither the city's sustainability efforts nor the will to reduce the number of tourists, Democrats 66 party leader Ilana Rooderkerk reportedly said.

In July 2021, the Amsterdam municipality decided to cap the number of tourists to 20 million per year.
