British lawmaker charged with street assault, say police

LONDON

Suspended Labour Party MP Mike Amesbury has been charged with assault following an incident in Frodsham, police said Thursday.

In a statement, the Cheshire police said that the 55-year-old MP for Runcorn and Helsby has been summoned to court to face the charge of section 39 assault.

"The charge relates to reports of an assault on a 45-year-old man on Main Street, Frodsham, which was reported to police at 2.48am on Saturday 26 October," added the police.

It noted that Amesbury is set to appear in court at a later date.

On Oct. 27, Labour Party suspended Amesbury after footage, showing him punching a man to the ground.
