ISTANBUL

Pope Francis had another “restful night” at the hospital, the Vatican announced on Friday.

"The Pope had a restful night and woke up shortly after 8:00," the Vatican said in a statement.

The 88-year-old pontiff also sent a message of gratitude on Thursday to those who have been praying for him since he was hospitalized last month.

“I thank you with all my heart for the prayers you offer for my health from (St. Peter’s) Square. I accompany you from here. May God bless you, and may the Virgin protect you. Thank you,” he said.

The pope has been at Rome's Gemelli Hospital since Feb. 14 receiving treatment for bilateral pneumonia and related health woes.
