LONDON
British lawmaker Jack Dromey passed away “suddenly” on Friday, his family said. He was 73.
Dromey was the Labour MP for Birmingham Erdington, and the shadow minister for immigration.
“Jack Dromey MP died suddenly this morning aged 73 in his flat in Erdington,” the family statement read. “He had been a dedicated Member of Parliament for Birmingham Erdington since 2010."
It added: “He was a much loved husband, father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.”
Dromey was the husband of Labour MP Harriet Harman, and they had three children together.
The British prime minister said he was "deeply saddened" by the death of Dromey. "My thoughts are with Harriet and the family, and all those who knew him as a friend. May he rest in peace," Boris Johnson tweeted.
Labour Party leader Keir Starmer also termed the passing away "Deeply sad news." "My thoughts and those of the whole Labour movement are with Harriet, their children and all those who knew and loved Jack," he said in a statement.
