AfD wins 38.2% in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, ahead of the SPD at 35.5%, while Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s CDU falls below the 5% threshold with 4.9% and fails to enter the state parliament. In Berlin, the Left Party wins 25.7%, ahead of the CDU at 18.8%, with the AfD on about 16% and the SPD on 12.1%. The results leave the current governing coalition in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania without a majority and increase pressure on Merz after the CDU’s losses in both states
