Bahrain, Egypt hold talks on Gaza ceasefire deal

Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa held talks in Manama on Monday with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to discuss the Gaza ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.

The discussions dwelt on the latest developments of the Gaza ceasefire deal, including the prisoner swap between Hamas and Israel and flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ceasefire took hold in Gaza on Jan. 19, halting Israel’s genocidal war that has caused widespread destruction and left the enclave in ruins.

The talks also took up bilateral relations between Egypt and Bahrain, developments in Syria and the importance of Arab coordination over regional issues, the ministry said.

Last week, Ahmed al-Sharaa, who led anti-regime groups to remove the Bashar al-Assad regime, was declared president for a transitional period.

Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party’s regime, which had been in power since 1963.
