Saudi Arabia's crown prince on Tuesday announced the "conclusion and success of the work" of the 42nd Gulf summit hosted by Riyadh.

"In conclusion, I would like to thank their Majesties and Highnesses (of the other Gulf countries) for their contributions to the success of the work of this summit," Mohammed bin Salman said in a video shared on Twitter by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The summit started about an hour before its conclusion and witnessed an opening session in which speeches were delivered by sitting and former leaders, before entering a closed session, followed by the closing announcement.

Tuesday's Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit was the first since the reconciliation reached between Qatar and most of the other countries in the bloc.

The summit was attended by the Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa, UAE Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber, and Omani Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs Fahd bin Mahmoud Al-Said.

Bin Salman chaired the summit at the Diriyah Palace on behalf of the Kingdom's monarch.
