In the event held within the scope of cinema trainings organized under the coordination of AA Academy, the birth, development, turning points and firsts in Turkish cinema were discussed.
Cinema history writer and critic Burçak Evren attended the event moderated by AA Foreign and Economic News Publishing Director Barışkan Ünal.
Referring to the debates about the first films of Turkish cinema, Evren also talked about the first films shot.
Evren said that the first Turkish female actors took part in the movie "Ateşten Gömlek", which was adapted to the cinema from Halide Edib Adıvar's novel in 1923, directed by Muhsin Ertuğrul.
Stating that the Turkish cinema language began to form with the directors of the Cinematographers Period such as Lütfi Ömer Akad, Evren stated that the foundations of Yeşilçam were laid in this period, open-air cinemas were formed, thus transitioning to the golden years of Turkish cinema.
Evren said, "Turkish cinema experienced its first crisis in 1974, when televisions entered homes. People are moving away from cinema, we call these 'lost years'."
Cinema history writer Evren explained that Turkish productions went into decline in the 1990s with the influence of foreign films and large international companies in movie theaters, but international awards were won again with auteur directors.
"Three generations could watch Yeşilçam films at the same time"
On the other hand, Evren pointed out that three generations can watch Yeşilçam films at the same time and pointed out that today, the structures on digital platforms do not offer productions that cover all three generations.
Evren said, "Cinema is not disappearing in these lands, although it has shifted to digital platforms, cinema is our way of life. If a young person cannot buy a cinema magazine or go to the cinema with his friends, then it is not cinema, but it is ringing some alarm bells for this geography."
The movie "Susuz Yaz", which was screened at the event, was evaluated in terms of its importance, subject and messages.
Evren stated that the problems of the rural areas were depicted in the movie "Susuz Yaz", directed by Metin Erksan, in which Necati Cumalı's novel was adapted to the cinema, and said:
"For the first time, it is discussed that the main problem in rural areas is the ownership issue between the villagers, employees and the landlord. In Susuz Yaz, the ownership issue and the sharing of water are explained. Susuz Yaz is a film that is the beginning of films with social content, in which human relations are scrutinized and interests and interests are explained in a measured manner."
