Afghanistan 'pleased' with NATO missions, says FM Rabbani

ANTALYA

Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani has thanked NATO for its assistance to the country in civil and military areas.

Salahuddin Rabbani's remarks came on Wednesday during a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Turkey's southern province of Antalya.

"The current Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan is an effective opportunity to enhance the capabilities of the Afghan national security forces," he said.

NATO's presence in Afghanistan from 2015 consists of three components: the NATO-led Resolute Support mission to train, advise and assist Afghan security forces; a contribution to the financial support of Afghan security forces and a strengthened NATO-Afghanistan relationship named Enduring Partnership.

Rabbani added: "Our aim, while participating in this important meeting, was to discuss and assess the Resolute Support mission until the end of the year 2016 and also enhance the Enduring Partnership beyond 2016."

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank my international partners for having shown commitment to continued cooperation with Afghanistan."

"We believe strongly and this was one of the biggest issue coming from the NATO countries to Afghanistan - that, in the coming years, they would be standing by the Afghan people and would strengthen Afghanistan's national defense and security forces," he added.
