ANKARA
China is pleased with United Nation Security Council’s resolution on aid to Syria, where a civil war has been raging for more than three years.
The draft requires that humanitarian aid be delivered to Syria, and authorizes aid convoys to use four border crossings into the country without notifying the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
Hong Lay, the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of China, said the Security Council resolution will benefit Syrians.
China is a charter member of the United Nations and one of five permanent members of the Security Council, and plays a critical role in the Security Council decision-making process.
Hong said it will be possible to cooperate with humanitarian organizations inside Syria in delivering the aid. The U.N. believes that millions of Syrians are in need of help.
The EU also welcomed the resolution.
"I sincerely hope that this resolution will at least facilitate safe, unhindered and immediate access to all people in need, including across conflict lines and borders," said Kristalina Georgieva, the EU Commissioner for International Cooperation.
