Big tech’s AI models come alive in humanoid robots
Google-affiliated DeepMind unveils Gemini Robotics, rivaling ChatGPT-maker OpenAI’s Figure 01 robot

ISTANBUL
Tech giants’ artificial intelligence (AI) models are being used to give life to humanoid robots, as Google-affiliated DeepMind recently announced its Gemini Robotics model.
Google said the model was developed with new robots in partnership with Texas-based robotics maker Apptronik.
The AI-powered and next-generation robots can do a multitude of things, from filling a lunchbox’s various compartments to folding a piece of paper on command, according to a recently released video.
The firm said AI-powered robots need to have three key features -- adaptability, interactivity and the ability to manipulate objects akin to a human.
ChatGPT-maker OpenAI, Google’s largest competitor, also invests heavily in robotics, having released the Figure 01 AI last year, after a partnership with humanoid robot maker Figure bore fruit.
Figure ended its cooperation with OpenAI in early February, however, despite the breakthrough.
Billionaire Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, meanwhile, introduced Tesla’s long-awaited robot Optimus Gen 2 at “We, Robot” in October, where the robot served drinks to visitors, among other social activities.
