BAKU, Azerbaijan
A fire at a state-run drug abuse treatment center in Azerbaijan’s capital has killed at least 30 people and injured many others, officials said on Friday.
The fire at the Republican Drug Abuse Treatment Center broke out in the early morning in Baku’s Hatayi district, said a Ministry of Emergency Situations statement.
The casualties resulted from smoke inhalation before firefighters were able to put out the blaze, it added.
The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals.
The cause of the fire is so far unknown.
