A Turkish court on Wednesday handed aggravated life sentences to members of Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) for their activities during defeated coup attempt in 2016, a judicial source said on Wednesday.
The suspects were involved in the activities at the 4th Army Corps and 28th Mechanized Infantry Brigade in capital Ankara, said the source on condition anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
The 20th Heavy Penal Court in Ankara convicted 74 out of 263 suspects for attempting to overthrow the constitutional order, the source added.
Remaining 189 suspects will be tried separately.
FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016 that martyred 251 people and injured nearly 2,200 others.
Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
