MARDIN, Turkey
To date at least 124 PKK terrorists have been killed and three detained in ongoing security operations in Turkey's southeast, according to figures provided by the province’s governorship.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Mardin governorate said 124 terrorists have been "neutralized" in the province of Mardin’s Nusaybin district since the beginning of operations about two weeks ago.
Many armor-piercing weapons as well as long-barreled weapons, heavy weapons, rocket launchers and ammunition, as well as at least 227 handmade explosives and grenades, were also seized in the operations.
On March 14, security forces launched a counter-terrorism operation in Nusaybin on the Syrian border to clear the town of improvised explosive devices and barricades.
“During the operation, 22 security officers who fought heroically were martyred,” the statement said.
More than 350 members of the security forces have been martyred since the PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign last July.
Thousands of PKK terrorists have also been killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
