Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Sunday that youth should be given a chance to make politics, and added that they were working on reducing the age of being elected to 18.

Speaking in the opening ceremony of facilities for 17th Mediterranean Games, Erdogan noted that nobody would have the chance to maintain as a politician until death and added that names of people in the positions would change with the alteration of Turkey.

"We brought three periods rule because we trust the youth. We reduced the age of being elected to 25. Besides, let me say that we were working on reducing the age of getting elected to 18," Erdogan said.

"Now, in several European countries, the age to elect and to be elected is 18. You give the 18-year-old the right to vote but not the right to be elected. We say electing is difficult and can reduce the age to 18 for candidacy. We are working on it".

Erdogan also emphasized that they were never apathetic in understanding the youth, and stated that they would never turn their back on youths, with whom they set forth, walked together, to whom they invested so much and created opportunities.
