Eight people have been detained in early morning anti-terror operations targeting the PKK’s youth wing in Istanbul on Thursday.
Anti-terror squads, backed up by helicopters raided 15 locations in three districts of the city; Eyup, Fatih and Kucukcekmece on the European side, according to police sources.
Eight suspects, who are thought to be members of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), were held while many organizational documents were seized during the raids.
Turkey has been carrying out operations against the PKK – considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and U.S. – inside and outside of the country since July 24. Police in Istanbul conduct operations almost every day.
Since then, more than 180 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq, including airstrikes.
