ANKARA
A major lignite coal field and power plant development agreement between Turkey and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been signed on Thursday.
The signing ceremony of the "Afsin-Elbistan Lignite Coal Mining and Power Generation Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation" was held in Ankara.
Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz, UAE Minister of Energy Muhammad Bin Dhain Al Hamili and several other officials attended the ceremony.
The agreement with Emirati oil and power company Taqa is expected to bring 12 million USD worth of investment in the region.
It has been reported that with the project, 45 billion kilowatt-hour (kwh) of energy per year will be generated.
The project will also create 15 thousand jobs.
