DIYARBAKIR, Turkey
Four suspects in last Thursday’s bomb attack that martyred seven policemen in southeastern Diyarbakir province have been remanded in custody, Diyarbakir Chief Prosecutor's Office said Monday.
The four were among 12 suspects detained earlier Monday.
According to the office, the suspects were held on charges of premeditated murder, being members of a terrorist organization, and disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state.
Last week on Thursday, a suspected car bomb struck a special operations police forces' vehicle in Diyarbakir, killing seven policemen and injuring 27 other people, including 14 civilians.
Tension is high in southeastern Turkey since the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
Since then, over 350 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
