Istanbul municipality announced on Wednesday that it will hold a tender for two new metro lines on September.
“A tender will be held for the Atakoy-Ikitelli and Dudullu-Bostanci metro lines in September,” Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbas said in a statement.
The Atakoy-Ikitelli line on Istanbul’s European side will be 13.3 kilometers [8 miles] and will enable around 45,000 passengers to travel in one hour on one direction, said the statement.
Journey time between Atakoy and Ikitelli will be 19.5 minutes and the tender for this line will be held on September 14, added the statement.
Topbas also underlined that, with the implementation of Atakoy-Ikitelli line, the route around Basin Ekspres Yolu will integrate with other rail systems including the Marmaray and Olimpiyatkoy-Bagcilar metro line.
In this way Istanbulites living in Bakirkoy, Bahcelievler Bagcilar, Kucukcekmece and Basaksehir will be able to use the lines, said Topbas.
The Dudullu-Bostanci line on Istanbul’s Anatolian side will be 14.2 kilometers [9 miles] and will have the capacity to carry 45,000 passengers in an hour.
The tender for this line will be held on September 10. The journey between Dudullu and Bostanci will take 21 minutes, said the statement.
Topbas also added that the Dudullu-Bostanci line will cross Maltepe, Kadikoy, Atasehir and Umraniye and will connect with the Kadikoy-Kartal metro line and Uskudar-Umraniye-Sancaktepe-Cekmekoy metro lines.
