ANKARA
Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Wednesday said that counter-terrorism was a long-termed struggle.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Press Office of Turkish Presidency said that President Gul was in great pain and sorrow following a mine blast in the eastern province of Tunceli that left six Turkish troops and one civilian dead on Tuesday.
"The fight against terror is a long-termed one. Counter-terrorism continues not only in its security dimension but also other dimensions such as economy, social and cultural fields," Gul said.
"Despite the great pain and sorrow, counter-terrorism would continue with determination and sensitivity," Gul underlined.
"I wish God's mercy upon our troops and citizen killed in Tunceli on Tuesday and offer condolences to their families, the Turkish nation and the Turkish Armed Forces. I also convey my feelings to those wounded for their speedy recovery," Gul also said.
Six soldiers and a civilian were killed in an explosion on Tuesday in the eastern province of Tunceli, a statement from Tunceli governor's office said.
The statement said the explosion occurred at a crossroad, adding that another civilian survived the blast with minor injuries.
