A Turkish soldier was martyred Wednesday by PKK terrorists in Turkey’s southeastern province Diyarbakir’s Sur district, said Turkish military officials.
According to a statement from the Turkish General Staff, a soldier was martyred during an attack by PKK terrorists while the counter-terrorism operations were still continuing.
Heavily injured during the attack, he died at the hospital.
Earlier on Wednesday, another soldier was martyred during anti-terror operations in Diyarbakir’s Sur district.
Meanwhile, seven terrorists were killed in Sirnak’s Cizre district and five other were killed in Diyarbakir’s Sur district during the counter-terrorism operations.
Numerous weapons were also reportedly seized during the operations.
The PKK -- considered a terrorist organization also the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July 2015.
Sur, along with Cizre district of southeastern Sirnak province, are among areas that have been the focus of counter-terror operations and military curfews since early December 2015. Since then, more than 250 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
