Soldier succumbs to injuries after having been shot by PKK terrorists in Mardin province
MARDIN, Turkey
A soldier was martyred Monday by PKK terrorists in the southeastern province of Mardin, security sources said.
Speaking on condition of anonymity due to the restrictions of speaking to media, a security source said a soldier was injured after having been shot by PKK terrorists during an anti-terror operation in the Nusaybin district.
The soldier was rushed to the Nusaybin State hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
The counter-terrorism operation carried out by Turkish Armed Forces, in cooperation with police, aimed to remove the barricades, destroy improvised bombs and re-establish public order in the district.
The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, more than 430 members of the security forces, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and more than 3,800 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
