HAKKARI, Turkey
A soldier was martyred and two others were wounded Saturday during an anti-terror operation in Turkey’s southeastern province of Hakkari, Turkish army said.
Turkish General Staff said on its website that the soldier was martyred early Saturday morning at around 7.15 a.m. local time (0415GMT) in clashes between members of the PKK terrorist organization and security forces in the village of Daglica, which is located close to the Iraqi border.
The two injured soldiers - one in critical condition - were taken to a hospital, the statement added.
Two terrorists were also killed during the clashes.
The operation is still ongoing, the statement said.
The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, more than 440 members of the security forces, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and over 4,500 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
