Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek called Saturday on Islamic countries to cooperate against increasing Islamophobic incidents and terrorism around the world.
“As the parliamentary union of the OIC member states, it is important to adopt a united stance and to resolve the common problems of the Islamic world,” he said at a meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Istanbul.
Cicek also said that the aim of the brutal attacks and Islamophobic incidents was to create clashes among religions, civilizations and sects.
“It is not possible for humanity to overcome the terror (incidents) without demonstrating a common stance and a common fight,” Cicek added.
The parliament speaker condemned the recent Paris attacks, describing them as “a crime against humanity, which everyone should strongly condemn.”
On Jan. 7, twelve people were killed when masked gunmen attacked the Paris headquarters of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which is known for printing controversial material, including cartoons of Prophet Muhammad in 2006 and 2012.
Two days later, four other people were killed in a kosher supermarket in Paris by Amedy Coulibaly, who had connections with the Kouachi brothers and was responsible for the death of a municipal policewoman the previous day.
