ANKARA
Turkey's European Union Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis evaluated the speech of Devlet Bahceli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), and said, "Our people are very good at differentiating between those who are attempting to put out the fire and those who are attempting to pour petrol over burning fire. Our hope and expectation is that everyone believing in the fire to be put out should support this process."
Stating that they were going through a critical point in the Imrali talks, Bagis said that Bahceli was in the effort of livening populism and exploitation politics over this process.
"We would expect Bahceli to follow the footsteps of the respected leader of the nationalist movement, Alparslan Turkes, rather than of Silivri. Turkes always emphasized that Turks and Kurds were brothers and sisters for 900 years and he had family members who were Kurdish. Unfortunately those who take over his ideals are insensitive to remember and remind about this thought," said Bagis.
Mentioning that Turkey would get out of this process stronger than before, Bagis said, "The partition of Turkey or similar words are not a kind that we can pronounce in such a comfortable manner that Bahceli does. Noone should doubt that our people's sensitive areas and expectation is our red line. Noone possesses the power to destroy the fellowship."
