BAMAKO (AA) - President of Religious Affairs Mehmet Gormez of Turkey met with Mali's Prime Minister Oumar Tatam Ly in the capital Bamako on Friday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Gormez said Turkey and Mali were determined to develop bilateral relations in political, cultural, and educational domains, adding that the relations between the two countries' religion institutes would pave the way for developments in other domains.
"We had an affirmative and a fruitful meeting with Malian prime minister who attaches great importance to relations with Turkey," said Gormez, expressing hope that the visit would contribute to friendly relations between the two nations.
Gormez and the Malian prime minister later attended the opening ceremony of Eyup Sultan Mosque Bamako which was constructed by Turkish Directorate of Religious Affairs.
Gormez expressed his happiness to have attended the opening ceremony, adding Mali has a great history and culture.
Chairman of the Supreme Islamic Council of Mali Mamoud Dicko thanked Turkish people and government for the construction of the mosque.
Istanbul Mufti Rahmi Yaran, Turkish Ambassador in Bamako Kemal Kaygisiz and Turkish Ambassador in Chad Ahmet Kavas accompanied the top Turkish cleric during his visit.
