HAKKARI, Turkey
Three members of Turkey’s security forces were martyred Tuesday in clashes with PKK terrorists in the southeastern province of Hakkari, a security source said.
Two police officers and a soldier died following fighting in Yuksekova, which is the subject of a significant counter-terrorism operation, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking publicly.
Eight soldiers and a police officer were wounded in the same incident, the source added.
Security forces launched an anti-terrorism action in Yuksekova, which sits close to the Iran and Iraq borders, earlier this month in a bid to flush out PKK terrorists and remove defenses set up in the district.
More than 300 members of the security forces have been martyred since the PKK, which is also listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign in July.
Thousands of PKK terrorists have also been killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
