Turkish companies exported 520 thousand tons of pasta in the first five months of this year, and they aim at boosting that figure as high as to 650 thousand tons by the end of 2013, according to local union of pasta producers.
Turkey's pasta exports was 100-150 thousand tons five years ago but it rapidly increased in past couple of years, said Mahmut Aslan, head of a Turkish exporters' union.
Aslan said Turkish companies succeeded in entering African pasta market -- traditionally dominated by Italian producers -- and claimed the second spot in global exports.
Angola was the biggest market for Turkish pasta in Africa, Aslan said.
