DIYARBAKIR, Turkey
Two soldiers were martyred when a makeshift explosive planted by PKK terrorists on a highway went off in the southeastern town of Lice, according to local police on Friday.
The explosive was detonated on the Lice-Kulp highway in Diyarbakir province, killing two non-commissioned gendarmerie officers who were patrolling the area, the police said.
An operation has been launched to catch the terrorists, they added.
Since July, official figures suggest more than 180 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq, including airstrikes.
