SOFIA
The new leader of ethnic Turkish party, The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), Lutfi Mestan on Monday said that the assassination attempt on their former leader Ahmet Dogan will strengthen unity and solidarity of MRF.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Mestan underlined that Ahmet Dogan withdrew himself from the leadership of the party with his own will after 28 years.
"The change in the leadership of MRF facilitated a balance between continuity and change," Mestan stressed.
"I am confident that many successful years are ahead of us as the MRF. God protected Ahmet Dogan. I am confident that we will carry our party to better levels with Dogan," Mestan noted.
Dogan on Saturday narrowly escaped the assassination attempt when an attacker climbed the podium and pointed a gun at Dogan's head but was unable to fire the weapon.
"We will seek international assistance on assassination attempt," Mestan also said.
