SOUSSE, Tunisia
The interior ministers of the U.K., Germany and France visited Monday the site of the deadly attack on a hotel in Tunisia.
At least 39 people were killed Friday, with roughly the same number of people injured, when a gunman opened fire on foreign tourists on a popular beach in the seaside resort city, Sousse.
Najem Gharsalli, the Tunisian minister of interior, visited the scene of the attack with his counterparts Theresa May from the U.K., Thomas de Maiziere from Germany and Bernard Cazeneuve from France.
The ministers placed flowers at the scene of the attack and held a moment of silence for the victims.
A press conference between the ministers is expected to take place at the hotel that witnessed the incident.
According to Tunisia’s interior minister, the attack was carried out by a student from the city of Kairouan, located roughly 60 kilometers west of Sousse.
Daesh, which currently controls large swathes of Iraq and Syria, claimed responsibility for the attack, according to statements posted by the group on social media.
The deadly assault came roughly three months after 21 foreign tourists were gunned down by militants in a museum in the capital, Tunis.
