PARIS
A French woman kidnapped in Yemen has been identified as a worker at the World Bank.
The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement the woman was seized on Tuesday morning in the capital of Yemen, without disclosing her full identity or that of the kidnappers.
French President Francois Hollande told reporters the woman was "30-years-old (and) ... worked for the World Bank organization. She was kidnapped in front of a ministry."
The Foreign Ministry said earlier its crisis center had been in contact with the family of the woman and its services "mobilized to locate and insure her release".
'Deteriorating situation'
It also renewed its call to French nationals to leave "the country as soon as possible, given the deteriorating security situation in Yemen".
The French embassy in Sanaa was shut down for what officials said were "security reasons" earlier this month.
Yemen has remained in turmoil since the removal of autocratic President Ali Abdullah Saleh in 2012 after 33 years in power.
Yemen's Shiite Houthi group recently took control of Sanaa and has since tried to extend its influence to other parts of the country as well.
At least 424 people, including eight children, have been killed in the country amid ongoing U.S. drone attacks first launched in 2002, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism reported in January.
