LONDON
Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu on Thursday said that they could not take advantage of Greek Cypriots' rejection of the Annan Plan.
Addressing the Turkish community as part of his contacts in British capital of London, President Eroglu said that the Turkish Cypriots could have used the Greek Cypriots' opposition to the Annan Plan as an example of Greek Cypriot intransigence.
Our colleagues at the time began negotiations with the hope of finding a solution but the Greek Cypriots' unwillingness for a reconciliation was forgotten, Eroglu stressed.
"Greek Cypriots are Greek Cypriots. We should have known that they would give priority to the interests of their own people and state. I talked about this at our parliament. Former Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat conducted negotiations with Demetris Christofias for two years and no agreement was reached. Christofias and I have been holding negotiations for the past two years. Christofias only knows to take and not give anything," Eroglu indicated.
"I find it hard to understand the embargo imposed on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The people of the TRNC neither want an atomic bomb like Iran nor kill their own citizens as in Syria," Eroglu said.
What is being done to us is a shame of humanity. It is a violation of human rights. We are the victims in Cyprus and not the guilty party, Eroglu also said.
