At least 11 people have been killed in an attack on workers from a Czech non-governmental organization in northern Afghanistan's Balkh province, local officials said.
According to the provincial governor's spokesman Moneer Ahmad Farhad, the gunmen attacked the organization's compound in the Zare district overnight Monday.
"Gunmen first shot two guards of the compound and then entered the office killing nine others," Farhad said.
The aid workers belonged to the Czech Republic's People in Need organization, which has been operating in Afghanistan since 2001.
According to the organization's website, they focus on field work in remote areas of Afghanistan and work with local investors to develop sustainable projects.
No group has claimed responsibility for the murders.
