THE HAGUE

The remains of two victims of the downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 are still to be identified after forensic experts identified one victim this week, Dutch officials said Saturday in a statement.

The Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice announced that forensic experts have identified one more victim of the crash, bringing the total of identified victims 296 so far.

"It is possible that information about the two who are missing will become available from the body parts which are in Hilversum," the statement said.

After the crash, the victims' bodies were brought to Korporaal van Oudheusden military barracks in Hilversum, the Netherlands.

Forensic experts from the Disaster Victim Identification team were entrusted by three countries to conduct the identification of the Malaysia Airlines MH17 passenger postmortems.

Nationals of Netherlands, Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, the Philippines, Canada and New Zealand were among the 298 passengers and crew on board.

The Boeing 777 was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it went down in eastern Ukraine on July 17, killing all 298 people on board, two-thirds of them Dutch.

The wreckage of the plane was transferred under a deal between Ukrainian officials and the pro-Russian separatists through mediation by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in December 2014.
