KAMPALA, Uganda

At least two people were killed and several injured after an explosion occurred Saturday at a popular restaurant on the outskirts of Uganda’s capital, Kampala, officials said.

The explosion occurred at the Digida Eating Point in an area called Komamboga.

“The scene has been cordoned and our joint task teams from the bomb squad called to thoroughly document whether the explosion arose out of an intentional act or not. We ask the public to remain calm as we establish the true circumstances surrounding the incident,” police spokesman Fred Enanga said in a statement.

The blast came days after several media houses reported that the UK warned its nationals that terrorists were planning attacks in Uganda.

Seventy-four people were killed by bomb blasts detonated by terrorists on June 12, 2010, as they watched the world cup finals in Kampala.
