COVID-19 patients in Belgian hospitals exceed 1,000

ISTANBUL

Coronavirus cases in Belgium are on the rise again as the number of hospitalized people exceeded 1,000, the latest data from public health science institute Sciensano showed on Tuesday.

For the first time since June 1, around 1,120 patients are under treatment in hospitals, %28 more than last week.

Also, an average of 76.6 infected people have been admitted to hospitals daily, a 22% rise compared to a week before.

Doubling the figures of three weeks ago, daily cases have reached 1,152, according to Sciensano.

However, the number of virus-related daily fatalities dropped from 4.0 to 2.9 over the past week, the figures showed.

Around 7,400 COVID-19 tests were taken daily with a 16.6% positivity rate.

So far, 4.6 million coronavirus cases have been reported in Belgium, and around 33,100 people died from the disease.
