CAIRO
Catherine Ashton, high representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy, asserted on Tuesday that ousted president Mohamed Morsi was in good health.
Ashton told a brief press conference in Cairo that she does not know where the deposed president was being held.
She declined to say what Morsi said about the current situation.
"I will not put words on his mouth," she told reporters.
Ashton, currently on a several-day visit to Egypt, her second in less than two weeks, held a two-hour meeting with Morsi last night.
Morsi has not been seen in public since the powerful military ousted Egypt's first elected president on July 3 following mass protests against his regime.
Ashton is currently on a several-day visit to Egypt, her second in less than two weeks.
She has already met with interim President Adly Mansour, army chief and Defense Minister Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi.
Ashton also met with representatives of the Tamarod (Rebellion) protest group that spearheaded the campaign to ouster Morsi.
The European official also held talks with representatives of the National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy, a coalition of largely Islamist parties and figures, including two Muslim Brotherhood leaders.
