Gunmen on Wednesday attacked the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Afghanistan's eastern Jalalabadcity, killing one Afghan guard and wounding another.
Security forces killed all four gunmen in a three-hour fire-fight, which erupted after the assailants detonated an explosive device at the entrance of the ICRC compound, Jalalabad's police chief Amin Sharif said.
A Red Cross spokesperson said six ICRC personnel were rescued by the security forces.
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack, the first on ICRCsince it began operations in Afghanistan in 1987, and the second on an international organization in the county in a week.
The ICRC spokesperson refrained from blaming the Taliban or any other armed group.
Taliban have spoken highly of the Afghan operations of the ICRCwhich has claimed bodies of Taliban fighters killed in clashes and return them to their families.
