Alex De Minaur on Wednesday withdrew from Wimbledon after suffering a hip injury.

"Obviously not an announcement I wanted to make by any means. I am devastated to pull out due to a hip injury, a little tear of the fibre cartilage that kind of is at the end of or connects to the adductor," the Australian No. 9 seed said.

"I felt a loud crack during the last three points of my match against Fils and got a scan yesterday and it confirmed that this was the injury and with a high risk of making it worse if I was to step on the court," De Minaur added.

De Minaur suffered the injury in his Monday's fourth-round match versus Arthur Fils.

He was due to play against seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals on Centre Court on Wednesday.

Djokovic, 37, therefore booked a free ticket to the Wimbledon semifinals, and will face either Taylor Fritz or Lorenzo Musetti.
