Arab Spring increases flights of Turkish Airlines

ANKARA (AA) - July 27, 2012 - The number of flights and passengers of Turkish Airlines (THY) increased during Arab Spring.

THY Director General Temel Kotil said on Friday that daily flights from Turkey to Tunisia increased to two from one after Arab Spring, adding that flights to Libya tripled from three times a day after the revolution.
THY is the leading air company which is holding flights to six cities of Iraq, he noted.
Noting that flights to Syria were suspended as of April 1, 2012, Kotil said that the number of passengers carried to Arab Spring countries significantly increased, and he expressed hope that problems in Syria would be solved soon.
Headquartered in Istanbul, THY operates scheduled services to 150 international and 41 domestic cities (38 domestic airports), serving a total of 187 airports, in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Turkish Airlines increased its sales revenue 40 percent in 2011, compared to 2010, and recorded operating profit of 339 million TL. Net profit came in at 19 million TL.Number of passengers carried increased 12 percent, reaching 32.7 million in 2011.
