BAGHDAD
The Supreme Committee for Relief and Sheltering Displaced Families in Iraq decided Thursday to allocate 500 caravans from a Turkish grant to Anbar province to create a refugee camp in al-Baghdadi town in the west of the governorate.
Mintaz Simsek, deputy director general of the Turkish Red Crescent Society, announced on Feb. 3 the donation of 1,000 caravans to house displaced Iraqi families, after talks with Iraqi officials in Baghdad.
The Iraqi displacement crisis is worsening with an increasing number of refugees as the circle of conflict widens between government forces, pro-government al-Hashd al-Shaabi forces and Sunni tribal fighters one on side and Daesh on the other in the north and west of the country.
Iraq has plunged into a security vacuum since June 2014 when Daesh stormed the northern city of Mosul and declared what it called a caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria.
