STOCKHOLM
A member of the Swedish main opposition, deputy Sven Britton and Swedish doctor Christian Svedberg on Tuesday returned home after the ship "Estelle" in which they were on board was stopped by the Israeli navy over the weekend.
Britton and Svedberg were greeted at Stockholm's Arlanda Airport by a large number of Stockholm residents with happiness.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA) in tears, Dr. Svedberg said that Israeli troops interfered while "Estelle" was in international waters and they detained individuals who were without any weapons.
"The ship 'Estelle', full of unarmed individuals and carrying humanitarian assistance, was surrounded by 5 big war ships, 20 landing ships and around 500 Israeli troops. Troops with their faces covered and carrying long range rifles detained us. They did not let us speak with attorneys in any way. We only had a chance to meet with diplomats from the Swedish Embassy for a short while," Dr. Svedberg stressed.
"Our aim was to take humanitarian assistance to Gaza. This is why we were on the "Estelle" ship. Our effort was not completed due to the Israeli troops," Dr. Svedberg said.
"We will continue efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza. We will never give up," Dr. Svedberg also said.
Deputy Sven Britton indicated that Israeli troops seized all of his personal belongings.
