ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu held talks with visiting Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama Al-Nujaifi on Wednesday in Ankara. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the Syrian conflict, according to diplomatic sources.
Davutoglu emphasized on the special relationship between two countries and he told he wishes to develop relationship with Baghdad in all fields, a diplomatic source said.
Davutoglu stated he desires the prosperity of Iraqi people, adding the criticism that Turkey is pursuing a policy based on sectarian line was not "true". On contrary he said, Turkey is in contact with different groups in Iraq.
In response, Al-Nujaifi stressed that all part of society in Iraq "love" Turkey, saying all wish for development in relations.
Davutoglu and Al-Nujaifi also discussed the latest developments in the Syrian conflict.
Turkish FM underlined the conflict and human tragedy in Syria threaten the region as a whole, and all states in the region should show their attitude openly.
Davutoglu stated that for that reason Turkey is showing active stance regarding the 30 month old conflict that claimed over 100,000 deaths and displaced 2 million people.
Davutoglu expressed President Bashar Al Assad who attacked civilians with chemical gas has no place in Syria's future.
Iraqi speaker and the delegation insisted the need for an end to bloodshed in Syria and said Iraq wants to cooperate with Turkey in that regard.
During the day, Osama Al-Nujaifi met with Turkish counterpart Cemil Cicek and Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
