ADEN, Yemen
The Yemeni army has seized control of Al-Hawta, the largest city of the southern Lahij province, military sources said Saturday.
According to the sources, army troops combed the city's streets in search for militants, who staged attacks against government and security offices in the city on Friday.
Al-Hawta descended into chaos on Friday soon after unidentified militants took over some government and security buildings.
Militants affiliated with Al-Qaeda had previously attacked government and security facilities in the city.
Yemen has been suffering turmoil since a popular uprising in 2011 ousted longstanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh a year later.
